Which got me thinking…
“Your body responds to training”
Its a powerfully motivating realisation. I mean, we’ve all heard it a million times, but when you assimilate it into your understanding of yourself, it unlocks the mental boundaries you set around what you can achieve.
I’ve got something deep to say (omg so deep), but I can’t get it out in a sensible fashion. So, I’m going to blurt it out: why do we fear moving our bodies? (I mean, like, people in, like, society?) Why do we make physical challenges seem so difficult & complicated?
Take your first ever marathon. Boiled down, its just a long run. You simply start. and keep going until you reach the finish. Whatever happens in between, you deal with it.* Even if you’re dragging your ass you’ve still only invested a quarter of one day of your whole life. But the pay-off when you finish is sore legs and an open doorway to new possibilities. I can never decide - is the world smaller, because the marathon is less scary? Or bigger, because all of a sudden you know you can go further, do more? Either way, its been a good investment.**
* Granted, to complete the marathon is one thing; to race it is another
** If you’re thinking about throwing yourself in the deep end, I’m all for it, but please remember how this post started: “your body responds to training!” I say do train. Do not over-complicate the challenge.
